Google Photos is getting smarter with AI. The big news came on Wednesday when Google announced that several fancy editing tools, once exclusive to Pixel phones and paying customers, are now free for everyone using Google Photos. These cool new tools include the Magic Editor, which uses AI to make editing easier.
All these AI features are now FREE
Some of these features include the Magic Eraser, which removes unwanted stuff from photos, Photo Unblur to sharpen blurry pics, and Portrait Light, letting you adjust the lighting in photos even after you’ve taken them. Before, these tools were mainly for Pixel owners and people with Google One subscriptions. But now, Google wants more folks to enjoy them for FREE.
These new tools will start rolling out on May 15th, but it might take some time for everyone to get them. And there are a few requirements. For example, on Chromebooks, you need a Chromebook Plus with specific software, and on mobile, you need recent Android or iOS versions.
Photoshop not required
The most exciting tool is the Magic Editor. It uses AI to do fancy stuff like filling gaps in photos, moving objects around, or changing the sky’s color. Before, you needed advanced tools like Photoshop for these edits, but now, it’s all automatic.
Pixel owners will get the Magic Editor, while iOS and Android users can use it up to 10 times a month for free. If you want more, you’ll need a Google One subscription.
Other cool tools include Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, and Portrait Blur, among others. These will be available to everyone using Google Photos, no subscription required. But some features, like Best Take, will still be exclusive to Pixel 8 and 8 Pro users
